Elmer Stewart Rhodes, wife beater, child abuser, disbarred attorney, and founder of the far-right militia group The Oath Keepers, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison after being convicted of seditious conspiracy and evidence tampering in relation to the January 6th riots on the Capitol in 2021.
The domestic terrorist and abusive father of six was sentenced by Judge Amit Mehta, who opted to enhance Rhodes’ sentence for terrorism. The Justice Department was seeking 25 years for the domestic terrorist, as a prosecutor stated in court that a harsh sentence was important “to ensure the respect for the rule of law that is essential to the survival of our democracy.”
Just before handing down his sentence, Judge Mehta told Rhodes, “You, sir, present an ongoing threat and peril to this country.”
